Traffic Crash Analysis Tool (TCAT)

The National Transportation Safety Organization's (NTSO) Traffic Crash Analysis Tool (TCAT) is a powerful, web-based traffic crash analysis platform developed to support detailed examination of traffic crashes at any location throughout the State of Michigan. The system receives weekly data updates from the Michigan State Police, ensuring users have access to the most current and reliable crash data available. TCAT allows users to analyze crashes across a wide range of locations, review statistics across multiple crash categories, and interact with dynamic maps to obtain detailed location-specific data. Users can also view collision diagrams, review UD-10 crash report images, and generate intersection and road segment ranking reports to support comparative safety analyses. As part of NTSO's ongoing commitment to providing best-in-class transportation safety resources, TCAT is continuously enhanced to remain among the most advanced traffic crash data systems in the world. Most recently, NTSO authorized a nearly $70,000 investment to integrate TCAT with the Michigan Department of Transportation's road network GIS database, ESRI Roads and Highways. During 2026, TCAT will be updated with newly added roadway and highway information, followed by a comprehensive engineering review to validate accuracy and improve system performance.

A graphical drawing, which further illustrates the crash patterns evident at various intersections.

TCAT also includes the following components:

  • Searching for crash locations or crash specific data.

  • Interacting with the map to obtain detailed crash statistics.

  • UD-10 report images. A UD-10 Bulk Download feature is available.

Filtering Capability

TCAT provides an extensive filtering capability so users can process their own unique traffic crash reports. Some of the data fields that can be selected are:
