Capt. (Ret.) Monica Yesh, Vice President of Law Enforcement and Community Services

Capt. (Ret.) Monica Yesh brings more than 31 years of law enforcement experience to her role as Vice President of Law Enforcement and Community Services. She joined the National Transportation Safety Organization on November 19, 2018.

A member of the 102nd Recruit School, Yesh served with the Michigan State Police for 31 years, holding the ranks of Trooper, Detective Trooper, Sergeant, Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Captain.

From June to December 2010, she commanded the Traffic Safety Division, leading commercial vehicle enforcement, Motor Vehicle Code efforts, and law enforcement training in alcohol enforcement, crash reconstruction, and speed enforcement.

Yesh also commanded the Michigan State Police Second District, overseeing uniform and investigative operations in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. During the final 10 months of her career, she led the Recruiting and Selection Division.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in Information Technology from Eastern Michigan University.

Yesh is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 216, and Eastern Michigan University’s Staff and Command School. She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Macomb County Association of Chiefs of Police, the Oakland County Association of Chiefs of Police, and Michigan's Distracted Driving Action Team.

As a traffic safety advocate, Yesh has taken part in campaigns, press conferences, public service announcements, award ceremonies, and other initiatives aimed at improving traffic safety.

She appeared in the PSA video “Remembering Ally: Distracted Driving Awareness,” honoring Ally Zimmerman, a 16-year-old Romeo High School student killed by a distracted driver. Yesh also spoke at Romeo High School to launch the distracted driving awareness campaign.

She has served on the selection committee for the Distracted Driving Billboard Challenge, a statewide education and enforcement initiative with State Farm that encourages drivers to avoid distractions.

Yesh views traffic safety as essential to saving lives and reducing serious injuries. At NTSO, she helps organize Operation Ghost Rider during Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April and works with OHSP to award grants to teen programs that teach traffic safety.

A native of Hastings, Michigan, Yesh spent much of her life in the Detroit metro area and now lives on the west side of the state near Gull Lake.
