Road Safety

Road safety has been at the core of the National Transportation Safety Organization’s mission since 1967, and today we are recognized as a national leader in advancing proven, life saving strategies. Yet far too many people are still dying on our roads. In the United States of America, approximately 110 people lose their lives every day in traffic crashes. This is a public health crisis. It is unacceptable and preventable. NTSO has demonstrated what is possible through a focus area that achieved one of the lowest traffic fatality rates in the world, using a comprehensive and data driven approach. We provide expert traffic engineering services to our government members, deliver impactful public education and awareness campaigns, and apply for and manage traffic enforcement grants that support highly visible enforcement. We also offer professional training and conduct in depth crash data analysis to guide effective solutions. Ending this crisis requires everyone working together. We need high quality traffic and vehicle engineering, strong and sustained public education supported by consistent news media coverage, and law enforcement committed to visible and proactive traffic enforcement. Road safety must be taken as seriously as crime prevention if we are going to save lives.
